Door III.

03 / The guide

A guide. A lineage.

  1. Before

Grandmother’s bloodline traces to Kalalau Valley on the Nāpali Coast. The hardest-reached valley in the Hawaiian Islands.

  2. Born here

Kanaka maoli. Native Hawaiian. Raised on Kaua‘i, the mountains as a backyard, the streams as the first classroom.

  3. Department of Land & Natural Resources

Years with Hawai‘i’s DLNR before guiding full-time. Still volunteers stewardship on the land guests walk across. Every tour feeds back into protecting it.

  4. 1998 · First guests

Opens the back gates of the island to the few people he chooses to bring. Started getting called the Hawaiian Dundee somewhere along the way. The nickname stuck. The bush skills came first.

  5. Today

One group a day. Three days a week. Up to four people. Kīpuka.

“Safety first. Then the real Kaua‘i.”
